Telecommunication development indicators in the Republic of Belarus of 2020

In the second half of 2020, the active development of the information and communication infrastructure of the Republic of Belarus continued.

As of January 1, 2021, telecommunication services are provided by 189 telecommunication operators.

As a result of the implementation of measures for the construction and modernization of telecommunication networks, the following results were achieved.

The number of subscribers of fixed broadband Internet access increased by more than 23 thousand and amounted to 3.256 million.

The number of IPTV subscribers increased by 8 thousand and amounted to 2.36 million.

More than 3.62 million subscribers are connected to the multi-service IMS platform, which is 120 thousand more than as of July 1, 2020.

The number of subscribers connected via GPON technology also increased by 70 thousand and amounted to 2.74 million.

The bandwidth of the external Internet channel increased by 50 Gbps over the past six months and amounted to 1800 Gbps.

The number of mobile telecommunication subscribers increased by 8 thousand and by the end of 2020 amounted to 11.66 million.

Second generation (2G) mobile telecommunications services can be used on 98.7% of the territory of the republic, and third generation (3G) services - on 98.4%. The coverage of the population and the territory of the republic with cellular mobile telecommunications services via LTE technology significantly increased over the past six months and at the end of 2020 amounted to 89.4% and 30.6%, respectively.
